Okay admit it you spend a lot of time with technology around you, your cell has grown into your skin and some of you love that tv in your car! But let's be honest all of that stimulation and distraction has a down side - we are all wired all the time and are used to constant stimulation. Our kids are following suit more and more. We have to be careful not to raise a generation of overly hyped-up people who want it NOW!
We need to blend old school and new school better so we raised balanced people who know who to utilize the new while embracing the old tried and true.
So I challenged my facebook and twitter followers with this post - "...Put the cell away during family time & be fully present & not distracted. Let me know how u do!!" And I meant it.
I challenge you the reader to do the same. Think about what you are teaching or not teaching the kids when they can't sit in the car without a movie or show going or can't be at home without it too. What message are we sending them when we don't put our phones down while we twitter, facebook and text constantly - not a good one. Show them that you can un-plug and focus on them and yourself and they are more likely to unplug and do the same.
Get out that old deck of cards - so much can be taught from the simple games/items like this: counting, sorting, colors shapes – it’s endless and so many of the oldies but goodies are the same - blocks, chalk, bubbles.
And by all means people seriously go to the library and browse the books with them - Kindles and computers are great but good old fashioned books are better!! Sit and read, open up their world. Go to story hours.
Like I asked my fans and followers let me know how you do with this. I hope you embrace it even just a bit and report back to me that you felt more at peace and calm and so do your kids. And now so I live what I'm telling you time to get off this computer and go work in the yard or maybe write a letter not an e-mail to an old friend!
